In a very short amount of time, Paige and Charlie have become vital parts of the Butterfly Harbor community.  It was obvious from our introduction to Paige in the first story of the Butterfly Harbor series that she was running from someone or something that she cannot allow to catch up with her or her precious daughter, Charlie.  Now we discover what that is, and I cannot even express how angry I was on Paige’s behalf when that reveal came.  I actually put the e-reader down and walked away for about an hour as I was seething over what she had gone through.  Yes, I do get emotionally involved in a really good story and there is no doubt that Paige, Fletch, and Charlie have an amazing story to be told.  But I try not to let spoilers slip through, so you’re going to have to discover what that is all about on your own.  (doesn’t matter how long a book has been around, there is always a first-time reader, so no spoilers)

I think what I enjoyed most about A Dad for Charlie was the feeling of reality on every single page.  How Fletch had dealt with his injury from his time in the military, his loyalty to those he served with even if they are at rock bottom and won’t ask for help, or eating a cake with an ingredient that he’s allergic to just because Charlie made it for him stole my heart, how Charlie and Simon got up to shenanigans, the everyday life of the residents of Butterfly Harbor is a place that I could easily imagine myself visiting, and the fear for Paige that the past would finally catch up with her and the dire circumstances when it did.  I adored Fletch, he’s a good man but… he did some really, really dumb male moves that almost cost him the two most precious females in his life.

A Dad for Charlie has so many layers to it from deepest despair to soaring joy and complex situations.  Paige and Fletch just felt right for each other, there was never a doubt in my mind that they would find their way to a happy ending – but what an adventure it was getting there.  We’ll meet up with old friends, get to know them a bit better, and meet some newcomers to Butterfly Harbor as well.  I had a blast back in this world again, and if you love a really good, emotional romance that will make you laugh, get you angry for someone, and even bring on some tears then this story, this series would be perfect for you.

I own a Kindle edition of A Dad for Charlie.

Available in paperback or for your favorite e-reader, mine is the Kindle.
