A Song of Secrets begins the Hana Trio series with a heartbreaking (and eventually, heart-lifting) romance, a second chance to get it right between two people who deeply loved each other but circumstances (and other people) got between them and their destiny.

There was a time, in college, that Angie and Joshua believed they had the world in a glass, a future together doing what they loved (creating and performing music) at each other’s side.  Life had some harsh lessons in store for them when Angie suddenly left Joshua behind and returned home with no further word or contact.  He was devastated, never knowing what happened to the love they’d cherished.  Time passes, life changes us, and eventually, answers can be found if you are willing to put the past aside, take some emotional risks, and trust in an emotion that has turned its back on you before.  Joshua will have that decision on his mind as he faces his beloved grandfather’s illness, because Angie is back in his life, and not loving her again (still) is not an option.

Angie had to make the hardest decision of her young life when she walked away from Joshua.  It broke her in ways that she’s still not recovered from… but it was necessary, the only option she had, and regret that she carried from that day forward, even if she knows she could not have made a different choice at the time.  Now, Joshua is back in her life with an exchange between them.  She’ll perform on a schedule for his seriously ill grandfather as he recovers in exchange for a uniquely created piece of music for the sister trio from the “unknown” composer.  Neither thought they had a chance at a future, but perhaps they could bring closure to their past.  Love doesn’t work quite that way, but their hearts have some serious mending to do before they’ll risk more.

I fell in love with this couple early on in A Song of Secrets.  The pain, the anguish, and the lingering love flowed off of the pages from the start.  Oh, I had a villain, a culprit to despise from early in the story as well – and those forced decisions that were demanded were wrong, cruel, and I doubt I’d have ever found forgiveness in my heart for their actions.

I adored Joshua’s grandfather.  This charmer was so instrumental in bringing two lovers back together.  That rascal.  I loved watching Angie and Joshua trying to protect each other from their past and on the other hand, still be so confused about what would be the future for them.  The words flow smoothly in A Song of Secrets, the characters leap from the page in their rage, confusion, and intense love for each other, and their family members as well.  I’ll be looking forward to each sister’s story eventually as they all have such lively, unique personalities.  Yes, I’ll definitely be following the Hana Trio series.  There are moments of intensity, times of laughter, and tears that are often not far from the surface as this couple finds their way beyond their past and embraces a future that will be rather unique for them.  I had such a good time in this world, and am anxious to get back soon.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.
