My Rating:  4.5 stars

Colton Bullseye is the fourth title in the multi-author mini-series, Coltons of Grave Gulch, and this story captured my imagination from the first page where the action is intense and the emotional level is quickly rising.

Aside from the intensity of the danger that both Dominique and Stanton face there is also that unique feel to a story where the couple has broken up and it’s obvious that they did so for foolish reasons that a conversation would have resolved.  Once Stanton was so certain that Dominique was his future that he asked her to marry him, her response was she wasn’t ready yet to commit to marriage… that “not yet” were the magical words.  But Stanton was so hurt or blindsided or stubborn that it was all or nothing for him – so he shouldn’t have been surprised when Dominique simply left.  Regret came later, too late to salvage anything in his mind, and perhaps he simply didn’t know how to get beyond her saying not yet when he wanted right now.

That was two years ago, and they might have continued to see each other in town from a distance if her father hadn’t hired Stanton as her bodyguard since she’s stubbornly not above taking risks to get the story that could in fact get her killed.  Now they’re discovering that the love is still there between them as each has had the time to see the other’s point of view with hindsight… but love won’t stop a bullet and now Stanton has to keep the woman he still loves safe – and that is not going to be easy.

Colton Bullseye is action-packed, fast-paced, and intense.  The overall arch of the series goes forward, we get a bit more vital information as this couple fights the very bad guys and sometimes themselves.  I enjoyed their story and could easily see each side, and why they broke up years ago.  Sometimes loving someone isn’t enough or easy in any sense of the word.  Watching them open up to the possibility of a future was an emotional journey and I enjoyed every moment spent back in this world.  If you love your romance with a touch of danger and the past catching up with a couple then you’d love this story and this series.
