Colton’s Pursuit of Justice begins the Coltons of Colorado multi-author series with a compelling and intriguing mystery that kept my attention and my imagination on high alert throughout.  I love the Coltons, in all of this family’s various forms and series, so it’s always with anticipation that I begin a new adventure with the family members that are connected but that I don’t know just yet.  Right now we’re meeting the Colorado Coltons whose father turned out to be not so honorable of a judge since it was discovered after his death that he’d been taking kickbacks and bribes to lean his sentencing of the innocent and the guilty in certain directions.  The scandal has opened up a huge problem for his surviving family and we’ll see the eventual formation of a company designed to right the wrongs done by Ben Colton by his children.  It’s going to be an uphill battle, and they aren’t even certain that they know the total depth of his illegal tamperings… but they will see justice for those people his decisions have harmed.

Caleb Colton has been asked by his ex-wife to help her cousin, Nadine Sutherland to try to unravel the questions surrounding an oil company’s claims that her father gave them fracking rights on his land.  Nadine’s father has memory lapses, perhaps the beginning of something far more dangerous medically, but also they both are in danger as she is fighting the oil company tooth and nail because she cannot, will not believe that her father was in his full mental capabilities at the signing of this so-called agreement.  And things are starting to get nasty.

Nadine is stubborn.  A true fact, and also she is unimpressed by the Colton name or believing that she is in any personal danger whatsoever… even if facts and attempts to harm her will prove her wrong.  It seemed to me that Nadine could stare into the sun and argue that the moon was rising… yeah, she’s that stubborn.

Caleb has closed himself off from romantic entanglements.  Until one spitfire by the name of Nadine begins to get under his skin.  While fighting to find justice for her and her father, Caleb is on the way to falling for a woman who is the opposite of what he says he wants in life.  Watching this couple fall in love, fight the bad guys, and realize that they truly do need each other was a charming, suspense-filled adventure.

Colton’s Pursuit of Justice kept me engaged from beginning to the ending with a suspenseful situation, a blooming romance, and glimpses into the stories to come in some ways.  This opener to the series set the tone, built the world in a way that makes me need to return to it, offered some sizzling chemistry, and for Nadine and Caleb, a dangerous threat to be dealt with.  I enjoyed myself immensely and will be following yet another Coltons series.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.
