She’s writing a romance novel…

and he’s just like the hero in her story!

Kaylee Collins, a shy city-dweller, is writing a Western romance—and getting the details wrong. Her editor insists that Kaylee learn more about country life by spending a week at a working ranch. Kaylee reluctantly agrees as long as she can bring Gladys, her slightly overweight Corgi.

To rustle up her courage, Kaylee channels the spirit of the fearless heroine of her story. But she’s shocked when she meets Luke Montgomery—the spitting image of her handsome cowboy hero!

As far as Luke’s concerned, Kaylee’s books are pure fantasy. Love hurts, and he should know: he lost his wife a few years back. But he finds himself amused and then enchanted by this woman who bravely tries new things and whose heart seems to be as big as the Montana sky. Can they both dare to start a new chapter together?

Title:  Cowboy Ever After
Series:
Author:  Jennie Marts
Genre:  Modern Western Romance
Published:  June 28, 2022
Publisher:  Hallmark Publishing
My Rating:  4.5 stars

Cowboy Ever After had me smiling throughout, especially at the banter between Kaylee and Luke.  She’s a romance writer who has never set foot on a ranch, or been near livestock, or even knows one end of a working barn from the other… and it’s beginning to show in her writing.  Her editor suggests actually staying at a real ranch, seeing how reality stacks up against her Google searches.  Kaylee isn’t exactly thrilled, but she’ll take on the persona of her feisty main character and make the most of it.  She never expected to love country life or the effect that one working cowboy would have on her heart.

I loved everything about this story and this couple.  Luke no longer believes in happily ever afters since his wife’s death, but Kaylee is having him take a second look at that possibility as she slowly winds herself around his heart.  And it’s hard not to love Kaylee with a heart as big as the sky, the ability to laugh at herself, and a spirit that won’t be tied down.  Watching this couple fall in love was a fun, emotional journey with lots of laughter sprinkled freely about.  I had a good time here, and if you’ve ever read or watched something by Hallmark, then you know what to expect – a happy ending.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own – good, bad, or indifferent.*
