Home with the Rodeo Dad begins The Cowgirls of Larkspur Valley series with an emotional, engaging romance that grabbed my attention from the first pages and had my heart in tow by the ending. Troy and Kat’s story feels so realistic as Troy takes on full parental custody of his six-month-old daughter while juggling caring for her, moving, finding work, and just surviving when just about everything in his world is turned upside down. It’s impossible to not feel his confusion, his frustration at events he has no control over, and his second-guessing himself at every turn if he is doing his best for his little girl. Yet, Troy’s love for his daughter, her safety, and her future is never for one moment in doubt, this man loves his child to the moon and back.
Kat is intending on bringing her grandmother’s property back to its former glory, but it’s going to be a long, hard task. She’s been duped by a man who she thought she was planning a future with only to discover the real reasons behind their relationship. She’s not trusting any man, especially a handsome single dad who claims to have rented her home from a relative… and she’ll soon discover that she’s not the only person who has been duped recently.
Troy is a proud, independent man who has only relied on himself for most of his life. To now be in a place of being beholden to someone’s kindness doesn’t sit well with him, but there really is no other choice where his daughter’s needs are concerned. And so begins a cautious relationship between Troy and Kat. Each feels the immediate attraction between them, yet each has good reasons to not act on those feelings recklessly. Watching them banter, argue, reluctantly agree, and work their way toward a happy future was an emotional and satisfying journey.
Of course, there are some vile villains here, the nasty kind that look sweet on the surface but underneath lies a rattlesnake preparing to strike without warning or caring of the harm they do to get their own way.
I enjoyed Home with the Rodeo Dad very much. It’s a good start to a series that already had me hooked and needing to know what comes next. Likable, believable characters and a situation that is far too realistic for many people tie this story in a sweet bow and invite us in for more adventures with folks we’ve met here. If you love a well-written, engaging romance with people you’ll want to help find their happiness, or if an adorable baby melts your heart, and a couple that obviously is perfect for each other is what you look for in a romance… then you should get started on The Cowgirls of Larkspur Valley series right now.
