For her, the man in the tux spells trouble

in more ways than one…

After clashing with Jackson Michaels, sheriff’s deputy and law student Hayley Lopez doesn’t know whether to arrest the gorgeous billionaire developer…or kiss him senseless.

Sure, the second option presents obvious difficulties. She didn’t fight for independence from her powerful family to let this super sexy older man boss her around.

But when they fall into bed together, Hayley starts rethinking the whole mistress-of-her-own-destiny thing.

Can she handle a no-strings fling or is she setting herself up for heartbreak?

How to Handle a Heartbreaker is the second title in this continuity line (series) of The Texas Cattleman’s Club: Fathers and Sons.  It’s an intriguing premise as there is definitely an age-gap romance here – one that Haley doesn’t give two cents about and one that is constantly on Jackson’s mind.  We’ll mostly see their romance from Hayley’s point of view and ultimately that will end up revealing some truths to both Haley and the reader as well.

Haley has her eye on the future.  Being completely independent of her wealthy parents, doing the job of a deputy sheriff now as she works towards her law degree is her focus right at the moment.  Sure, she might walk a tight line in giving her opinion on how legally some folks might handle situations but she’s very careful to never cross that line.  She never dreamed that helping the one property owner who is holding out against a big development project would lead her right into temptation… and perhaps her future as well.

Jackson is so close to having his dream become a reality.  Just one holdout, just one property… and then along comes this little spitfire getting mixed up in his business… and in his mind.  His attraction to Haley should be shocking, after all, he is a good decade or more older than she is, but he’s finding it hard to back away from the tempting flames that flare between them.  He will keep trying to push her away all the while wishing he could take the chance to make her his top priority.  Haley has a part of his heart that he didn’t think existed anymore, and if he isn’t careful he’s going to lose the best thing that’s ever happened to him.  It’s time to take a risk and hope they both don’t crash and burn from it.

My to-be-read pile is ridiculously large, but I keep working on getting caught up on series… eventually.  I absolutely adored Haley.  She’s strong, stubborn, and determined that she knows what’s best for everyone – including Jackson.  Yet when he needed her to understand his motives the most she turned her back and that almost destroyed this equally strong, stubborn man.  Haley made a mistake, and if she doesn’t clear the air she’s going to regret it for the rest of her life.  Watching this couple work through their differences was an enjoyable and emotional journey.  I loved How to Handle a Heartbreaker from the opening page.  If you love a solid romance with a couple who have issues to be dealt with and both are equally stubborn about who is right, an intriguing project to unveil, and sizzling chemistry then you’ll want to pick up Jackson and Haley’s story soon.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.
