It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #2

I love fun memes, I really need to join in on more of them because… fun.  We should all have more fun in our lives, especially those of us who usually have a book in hand and a ton in line waiting to be read! 🙂

So let’s kick this off with “It’s Monday! What are you reading?”.  From the official page, “It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organize yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile!” Now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

I gave myself permission to take a bit of a book break over the holidays.  Didn’t read as much, and surprisingly, a lot of what I did read I also gave myself permission to DNF simply because I didn’t care one whit what happened to those characters.  That’s a 2022 goal of mine – to stop reading a book I’m not enjoying simply because I “spent good money” on it.  So. What. ?  I’m really getting behind the realization that we have a limited amount of time on this blue marble in space… why continue to read a book that I’m hating just because I spent “good money on it”?  No, no more.

One book I did devour was The Girl in the Mist by Kristen Ashley.  This was her first novel in the Thriller genre and did she ever nail it!  I’ll admit to having read all of her books and loved (to some degree) every single one… but this one went to another level of suspense, mystery, terror, and romance with an older couple who proved that age is no limit for love or sexiness!  I would highly recommend it for anyone who loves a good mystery, a seasoned romance, and isn’t put off by uncomfortable subjects (or at least knows how to skim past parts of a story to enjoy the other parts).

I wrapped up one series, Dynasties: The Carey Center with two reads, and one DNF… which was sad because I’ll never know some answers in that series but I just couldn’t take one more moment of one of the main characters.  Oh, well.  And got caught up-to-date with Nicki Night’s series, The Blackwells of New York with a sexy, lovely, and emotionally intense romance, One More Second Chance.  What this couple went through broke my heart, watching how they came together again was an amazing read.

And that was it for the last two weeks.  I’m not sure what I’ll be reading this week – the TBR is just too huge, ya know? 🙂  But I’ll let you know next week.  In the meantime, here are the covers and the Goodreads links for the books I loved recently.

Here’s hoping all of your book choices leave you wanting more!

I have been getting much better at DNFing books too. It makes sense. With so many books to choose from, it seems silly to stay with one you aren’t enjoying. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

You always offer a really great variety of books! I have been on the hunt for some unique mystery reads so I think I have to add “The Girl in The Mist” to my list – thank you. Not sure if you’re looking for new books (you always seem to have plenty on the TBR pile – lol.. But just in case – I found a really fantastic romantic suspense novel – “Dark Truths” by Tess Thompson (https://sisterswritingcrime.blogspot.com/). It’s a part of the Angel Fall series but it can 100% be read on its’ own. Horror fiction author, Peyton, and county Sheriff, Jonas, meet at a bar and have an instant connection. However, both were going through some devastating personal issues so the timing was definitely off. Fast forward to the murder of Peyton’s dear friend and fellow author, Cecil, and guess who’s on the case? Not only that, Jonas knew Cecil too. Mix in a local psychic (one of my favorite characters) confirming that Cecil was murdered and a whole lot of shocking twists and turns along the way this was an extremely addictive book from start to finish. This is the perfect cozy winter read. If you check it out I would love to know your thoughts!
