If there is anything I regret about my reading life it’s that there aren’t enough hours in the day to do all the reading that I’d like – and that my TBR is too big.  I’d purchased Alaska Mountain Rescue earlier this month and realized that I had the first story in the series unread on that TBR tower of mine.  So, there was nothing to do but bring K-9 Defense to the top of that pile again and dig in.  I’m so glad that I did.

Kensie made a mistake.  Something any 13-year-old girl might do, continue reading her book while the little 5-year-old sister she was watching played nearby in the yard.  It’s something that happens in families every single day across the globe… but this day was different.  A car slamming on the brakes, a strange man grabbing Alanna and tossing her into a car, and then speeding away with Kensie running after them screaming her sister’s name.  A day that changed lives forever.  A day that Kensie cannot forget, and she has followed every possible lead (hoax or not) related to her sister’s kidnapping.  Now she believes she’s on the right track, this tip feels right unlike the others… she knows Alanna is here in this small Alaska town and she will bring her sister home.

Colter and his military tracking dog are healing or perhaps more to the point, hiding in Alaska.  A former military specialist, Colter was severely injured during an ambush that took the lives of his brothers in arms, guilt that Colter has lived with every day since has taken over his life in many ways.  On this day his dog, Rebel, makes a dash to save a woman directly in the sights of a speeding car, and as Colter tries to run to save her it will soon be evident that Kensie and Colter (and Rebel) will be chasing down a slight lead in Alanna’s kidnapping and stepping into unknown danger to them all.

K-9 Defense is everything that I read intrigue/romantic suspense for… a couple who draw me into their story, a solid plot with enough twists and turns to satisfy my need for danger and resolution to have some part and a growing love that cannot be denied (although Colter will try his best it’s not going to work).  This is an emotionally charged story on so many different levels that it will probably break your heart a bit and then, eventually, heal it back to life again.  I enjoyed myself so much in this world – and, lucky me, I can dive right into Alaska Mountain Rescue without having to wait.  Always a winning moment for me.  If you love a really good story full of intrigue, suspense, danger, and a couple that will soon feel like old friends (plus one very good dog) then you’ll want to start this series right now.

I own a Kindle edition of K-9 Defense.

Available in paperback or your favorite e-reader, mine is the Kindle.
