Maverick Justice is the second title in The Law in Lubbock County series, and it’s action-packed with twists and surprises on almost every page.

Cash is understandably puzzled when he discovers his ex-fiancée asleep in his bed.  Delaney made the choice to end their engagement long ago, so what in the world was she doing back here, in his bed of all places?

Delaney is in trouble deep and she runs to the one man she trusts above all others, the one man she still loves to this day even though she broke his heart.  Right now, she can’t worry about the past but about the danger to her at this moment.  She’s being hunted, and after escaping from the hospital the only place she knew she’d be safe was with Cash.  Her memory is fuzzy, things just aren’t adding up but the one thing she instinctively knows is that Cash will help her… and someone wants her dead.

As with any mystery or romantic suspense, I won’t be going into any great plot details about Maverick Justice.  But I can safely say that I was glued to the pages from start to finish as Delaney and Cash try to figure out why she was being targeted and by who.  There are suspects galore, and each one made perfect sense to be the culprit… until the next suspect did something to turn my attention to them.  I love puzzles, and Delores Fossen’s stories are always a puzzle to be figured out (sometimes successfully, and sometimes not) to find the true villain in the story… one reason I return to her worlds time after time.

Delaney had her reasons for breaking off her engagement to Cash.  Were they great reasons?  I don’t think that matters because the only person who can make that choice is Delaney, and she felt it was the only thing she could do at the time.  I loved the banter, the flashes of their past, and the heat that never went away between them – it’s obvious that they still love each other even if Cash is suspicious of so much that’s happening to them both right now.  The villain is vile, and you’ll understand why when they are finally revealed.  I was easily caught up in not only the danger in Maverick Justice but also the rekindling of the relationship between Cash and Delaney that never should have ended years earlier.

If you love solving puzzles, if the sizzle of attraction between former lovers gets your attention, if dangerous situations raise your heart rate, or if you simply love a well-written, action-packed, romantic suspense that reunites two people who belong together… then Maverick Justice and The Law in Lubbock County series are a perfect match for you.  I loved being back in this world.
