Mr. Grump by Leslie North

I have a confession.  I hate bachelorette parties.  A night of dick straws, awkward dancing, and being told “it’ll be you soon, Kaitlyn!”  Especially when it’s at a super swanky Miami club—exactly where I don’t belong.  Couldn’t get any worse, right?

Enter Mr. Tall, Dark, and I-didn’t-know-they-made-people-this-gorgeous.  Grump supreme. His scowl has a scowl.  Especially after I knock a drink onto a VIP and myself.  He must be the manager of the club because he has keys to the penthouse above it.  A penthouse he offers to let me change clothes in.  A penthouse we screw all over.  Then, he gets a call and kicks me out. Jerk.  Told you it got worse.

Ready for worse?  The first day at my new job as a nanny and Mr. Scowl is my boss.  James Morris.  Billionaire club owner, deal maker, and first-grade bosshole—if the tabloids are to be believed.  Also a single dad to an adorable daughter who needs my help.

But there’s no way I can take this job—every time I look at him, I’m back in that penthouse.  And from the way he smiles when he looks at me, he’s thinking the same.  Then he tells me why this has to work. Why he needs me. Why I can’t say no.

New confession?  I hate my boss.

My Rating:  4.5 stars

Mr. Grump begins the Billionaire Bossholes series with a steamy encounter between James and Kaitlyn and settles into a sensuous slow-burning romance with questions, issues, and that hot passion on the slow boil in the background.  This story grabbed my attention from the start, and my heart soon followed as we learn just why James turned into such a jerk that first night with Kaitlyn and we are drawn into his complex world and introduced to his adorable young daughter, Harper.

It wouldn’t be fair of me to give a lot of details about Mr. Grump (although, believe me, I want to) because there are some heart-wrenching moments that you really should encounter firsthand.  You’ll find a devoted father, a young girl who has been traumatized and is fighting the healing process, and a woman who gives her everything to bring that child some relief, a chance at a full life all the while falling more in love with father and daughter every day they spend together.  You’ll also find a villain who is as underhanded as he is evil, it was quite easy to loathe this man.

I loved watching this couple handle not only their sizzling attraction but also a little girl who needs them both to help her heal, and eventually, take the risks that allowing someone into our hearts requires.  There comes a moment that was quite heartbreaking but groveling was done in a quite satisfying manner.  When you mess up you need to own that and make it right – James did that with style and heart.

I had such a good time in this world, loved the main characters, adored a little girl who has been through so much and simply had a blast with this romance.  If this sounds like your kind of romance, a well-written, emotional, sexy, satisfying love story then you’ll want to pick up Mr. Grump right now.
