Carly’s crushed on Josh for years, and she plans to ask him out now that she’s back in Last Stand. She’s hoping he’ll finally see her as someone other than his younger brother’s middle school girlfriend. But when Josh needs advice on how to handle his family’s lottery win, his client and billionaire statuses put him firmly out of reach. How would you react if your family became billionaires overnight, or to be more exact through a lottery ticket?  One moment life goes on as usual; the next… life will never be quite the same.  This is what has happened to the Tomlinson family, and while all that money will be useful beyond belief, it also opens up possibilities that could bring danger into their lives.  So begins The Accidental Billionaire Cowboys series, and if the first book is any indication this is going to be quite an enjoyable ride.

What struck me first was how realistic the family’s reaction to this windfall was.  It would be natural to start celebrating, telling friends, and maybe even having a night out on the town.  But Ava has raised some smart men, and one of their first thoughts was how to protect themselves from those who might want to steal from them, con them, or suddenly find long-forgotten relatives arriving at their doorstep.

Carly is well-known to the family and has recently returned to Last Stand with her lawyer’s shingle in hand.  Who better to represent them than a woman they’ve grown up with?  Josh has had a silent crush on his childhood friend forever it seems, and now he needs her advice never realizing that Carly had hoped to take their friendship further once she returned home… which, of course, now she couldn’t do because it would look like she was after the money angle not wanting a life with Josh.  Complicated enough for you?  Yeah.  Money can’t buy happiness, and these folks are about to realize that the hard way.

I enjoyed myself so much with The Billionaire Cowboy’s Christmas.  Josh has always been the solid brother. But right now he’s realizing that his crush has gone so much deeper than the surface emotion it was into the forever kind of love stage.  I loved watching them fall in love, and yes, there are complications, but those don’t get in the way of the bond that Carly and Josh have between them.  Of course, it was impossible for their secret winnings to stay secret for very long which just added another layer to the plot.  It’s going to be interesting to see how more lives are changed throughout the series.  I had fun here, this is one of those unexpected windfall stories that was handled very realistically, but also with a good bit of laughter, confusion, family, and a town that just wants to celebrate one of their own making it big.
