Title:  The Father of Her Sons
Series:  Wild Rose Sisters #1
Author:  Christine Rimmer
Genre:  Contemporary Romance
Published:  October 26, 2021
Publisher:  Harlequin Special Edition
My Rating:  4.5 stars

The Father of Her Sons begins the Wild Rose Sisters trilogy/series with a poignant, emotional story of two people who connected so strongly once upon a time, but due to their circumstances and mindsets at that time would only commit to a no last names, no phone numbers, no way to find each other again agreement for their one amazing week together.  Each had their reasons, ones that seemed to make sense at the time even though each had second thoughts on that final morning… neither acted on them, which was a mistake that they would come to regret down the line.

Leap ahead to five years later as Easton and Payton are about to meet each other once again back where their love story began… and information that Easton has no knowledge of yet.  Both thought of and tried, in their own ways, to find each other but without important information, it was not possible.  Easton’s work again returns him to this small town where the woman he’s fallen for lives and the possibility of finding her once again has him on edge.  Their reunion is not quite what each had envisioned but perhaps even more emotional than they thought possible.  Payton is face to face with the father of her twin sons after years of trying to find him again, and Easton has found the woman he couldn’t get out of his mind or heart for those long years.  It should be a wonderful reconnection… but there are complications galore.

The Father of Her Sons won my heart quite easily, mainly because of two adorable little boys, Penn and Bailey.  Payton is a woman caught in her past, her childhood past, and cannot bring herself to trust Easton with her heart.  Yes, she trusts him with their boys and wants them to know their dad – but with some conditions attached for their (or her) protection.  I will admit there were moments when I just wanted to sit Payton down for a stern conversation about letting go of the past… but I doubt she would have listened to me.  Easton is a sweetheart, but he’s moving a bit fast so in some ways I get his insistence on some level but also, he needed to slow down in so many ways.  Yet, it’s obvious these two belong together, they just have to get on the same page where trust is involved, and with Payton’s history that’s not going to be an easy task for Easton.

Toss in some (well, maybe huge) family drama on one side, and a few implied complications on the other and you’ll find a very satisfying, emotional romance between two very stubborn people who while working out their love life has two adorable little ones to enjoy and bring into a new family dynamic.  I loved Payton’s sisters and aunt and definitely want to learn more about their lives.  I had fun here, got started on a trilogy that has been on my to-read list for far too long, and am now definitely hooked on the trilogy.  If you love a complicated romance with a couple who simply fits together in spite of their hesitation, if little boys full of mischief and adventure make you smile, and if a simmering, sizzling chemistry between two people in love will always tempt you – then The Father of Her Sons is a good fit for you.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.
