With a debut novel like Last First Kiss, I can guarantee you that I’ll be following Stella Holt’s series right up to the end… and beyond.  The Legacy of the Maguires series centers on one central theme, a family who is in one way or another connected to the dangerous, serious, and sometimes heartbreaking world of the police (and those who serve in a different way).  Charlotte and Caleb’s story brings that reality to life as Charlotte is a widow, whose husband was killed in the line of duty.  We’ll meet other members of the Maguire family along the way, and I can already tell you that I cannot wait to read her brothers’ stories… what a great, funny, loyal bunch of siblings.

Charlotte and Caleb had already met while she was working overseas, they shared one kiss, but she was committed to someone back in the States, and what they might have had together went no further.  Neither forgot, but life pulled them in different directions.  Now, they are about to be working together once again.  And this time, Caleb will go after the relationship he wants with Charlotte.  It’s not going to be easy, there are ghosts still hovering around, and he’s holding back some important information.  But he knows one thing, Charlotte is the one for him, and he believes she feels the same… he’s out to win the woman who captured his heart with one kiss.

Last First Kiss deals with some deep subjects in a way that doesn’t pull the story down but enhances it with heartfelt emotions and reality.  That is not an easy thing to pull off which is one of the reasons that this debut novel impressed me so much… and the fact that it’s a riveting, well-written, emotional romance certainly didn’t hurt one little bit.  Charlotte’s struggle with loving someone again is portrayed so realistically.  Yes, there is a ghost in this new relationship, and that’s not something to be taken lightly by Caleb… and the fact that he didn’t, that he understood that Charlotte’s love for her deceased husband would never magically just go away was one reason why I loved this man. Watching this couple fall in love, deal with the past, and make a start on a lifetime kind of love was an emotional journey, one I would highly recommend to any reader of Romance, no matter your preferred genre.
