Title:  Single Dad’s Unexpected Reunion
Series:  Wyckford General Hospital #1
Author:  Traci Douglass
Genre:  Contemporary Medical Romance
Published:  July 25, 2023
Publisher:  Harlequin Medical Romance
My Rating:  4.5

Single Dad’s Unexpected Reunion begins the Wyckford General Hospital series with an emotional romance that kept me flipping pages as Cassie and Brock work their way through a perhaps second-chance romance, even though all those years ago, it was Cassie who had the major crush that would never come to anything between them.  So much so that she’d start her career on the opposite side of the country in California to avoid running into Brock.  Now, after a successful presentation of a new procedure at a conference in Boston, Cassie will head back to her childhood home to visit her father, catch up with old friends, and take part in the surgery for a patient using that new procedure at the local hospital.  The past is about to meet the present… and decide if there is a future they can share.

Life often takes unexpected turns, something that is very true for Brock.  He’s now the sole doctor at his father’s practice, the one practice that has held out against joining the major hospital network in town.  He’s a widower, a single father, and the herder of one French bulldog puppy who is as mischievous as it’s possible to be… and stubborn as well.  When Cassie returns home to work with one of Brock’s patients, there is more than just a spark of attraction for Brock this time around.  Yet, he’s not willing to let anyone in his heart again, he’s had enough of loss, of being thrown off kilter by life, and he will not risk his heart or his daughter’s.  Little Adi just might have a far different opinion of her father’s decision.  Each has good reason to guard their hearts, but what is building between them feels more like forever than just a temporary fling.  But there are risks.

I adored one little space princess who fluently speaks Droid, even if no one else does!  Watching these three people slowly meld into a family was a delightful experience, even though there were roadblocks along the way on each side.  Brock’s sister is one of those strong secondary characters who I cannot wait to learn more about.  Brock’s stubborn belief almost cost him happiness beyond measure.  I loved Cassie; she’s built her life in spite of the feelings for Brock that have changed into something more with this visit.  She has hard choices to make before that forever ending can become a reality.

I love getting caught up in a romance by Traci Douglass.  The world she creates is always well written, full of interesting people, unusual circumstances, and always a love that isn’t easy by any means but is also possible when two people are willing to take a few emotional risks.  I can see three story possibilities in Cassie and Brock’s story, and I can’t wait to discover what’s in store for the other two possible couples mentioned in Single Dad’s Unexpected Reunion.
